River Dippers began in 1979, as a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing information about public locations in central and northern California where people may swim or sunbathe free of clothing (or with whatever attire they wish) without hassles. In addition the club facilitates social gatherings hosted by member volunteers.
River Dippers welcome all who share our open enjoyment of sun, breeze, water, and good people in natural, outdoor settings, without the necessity of clothing. We are affiliated with the national naturist organization, The Naturist Society (TNS).
Our web page at http://riverdippers.org/guide shows some of the best skinny-dipping streams, rivers, and lakes in central and northern California. Places where skinny-dipping and nude sunbathing are locally accepted and, indeed, the preferred way to visit nature (in the outfit she issued you).
Our bimonthly newsletter is our connecting link to inform members of club activities. We also encourage members to contribute articles and information about the clothing-optional lifestyle.
Our intent is to keep organization and formality to a minimum and fun in the sun to a maximum.
Our newsletter is published six times per year: January, March, May, July, September, and November.
We facilitate communications through our email account, firstname.lastname@example.org. This is an excellent medium for answering questions about the club and Central California Naturism.
We maintain a list of River Dippers members with email accounts so that we can get news and discussions out to our membership quicker than we can with the newsletter.
IS CLOTHING OPTIONAL RECREATION ACCEPTED?
A 2006 Roper Poll found:
- 74 percent of Americans approve of nude sunbathing at beaches accepted for that purpose.
- 54 percent of Americans approve of government designation of clothing-optional areas.
- 25 percent of Americans have joined in coed nude recreation.
- 24 percent of Americans approve of backyard nudity even if visible to others.

River Dippers is a nonprofit, community service organization. Ours is a labor of love, on an all-volunteer basis. The membership contribution covers our out-of-pocket costs for this web site, postage, newsletter reproduction, postal box rentals, exchange copies to other groups, stationery, etc.
River Dippers believe in the wholesomeness of the human body, and regard it as neither an object of shame nor a subject of degrading exploitation. Our natural state is without clothing; the choice to be clothed or not should be the option of the individual.
River Dippers act in a responsible manner above reproach in all aspects of our chosen form of recreation — accepting the responsibility of maintaining the natural state of the environment we use, enjoying our state of undress in such a way as not to infringe upon the rights of others, educating others about the merits of clothing-optional recreation, and avoiding non-constructive confrontations with authorities or the public.
River Dippers maintains a policy of wholesomeness in all our group activities.
We participate in a wide variety of activities throughout the year: seasonal and theme parties and potlucks, pool and garden parties, indoor swims, dine-outs, game nights, Nude Recreation Week, national naturist association gatherings, nude camping, hiking, and backpacking, beach outings, canuding, houseboat weekends, nude sailing, visits to hot springs and resorts, and more. We also hold an annual meeting to discuss and plan events for the year.
